From our very first conversation with Annie and Val, they envisioned a joyful, country club-themed activity day to honor Annie’s mom, affectionately known as “Lulu.” A former NCAA National Champion and lifelong tennis devotee, Lulu remained deeply connected to the sport, serving on the board of the USTA Foundation until her passing in 2017.

When we traveled to Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez, one look at their twin tennis courts and we instantly knew we’d found the perfect setting for their wedding weekend. With the event taking place just days before the start of the French Open, the location and timing made it only natural to nod to that iconic tournament.

“Camp Annie & Val” celebrated both playfulness and nostalgia. Guests enjoyed friendly competitions, French market food stalls, custom merch featuring Lulu’s favorite saying: “Suck it up, Buttercup” and a French take on Erewhon-inspired smoothies. Annie and Val looked the part in custom One/Of dresses that channeled vintage tennis icons Billie Jean King and Chris Evert, while guests toasted Lulu’s spirit with ginger shots, a fitting (and much-needed) hangover cure.
